I deleted all my iPhone contacts to make sure I wouldn't have anything messing up my Gmail contacts. Then I set up the account selected a small group (that I made myself) of 74 contacts and started the sync again and again and again etc. It always times out after about 2 1/2 minutes.
When I tried to change the group it kept crashing so I deleted it - re-installed it and now I can at least change the group I want to sync by no matter what I do absolutely nothing gets transferred to my iPhone.
I've been trying everything I can think of for hours now and I'm giving up.
So now all my contacts from I iPhone are gone and I can't get this to work to get them back. This is very disappointing.
I've seen other posts there were somewhat similar with no solution but I'm hoping you'll be able to solve this.
Waiting to hear from you.

Would you be willing to send us a copy of your Gmail contacts? Since you have no contacts on your iPhone, I can easily replicate your situation with a copy of your contacts and see if there is anything obvious causing an issue. If you wanted to do that, just do an export of your Gmail contacts from Gmail and email that to jason@syncinablink.com.

I found another route to accomplish what I need for now and I may still have a use for S-I-A-B later on. So it's not all bad. Thanks for the quick response. That is reassuring.

I thought I'd try this again but it's still crashing every time I try to sync.
When I try to sync I get the sync screen with the progress bar that doesn't go anywhere and then the app closes. It found my account and loaded by groups but crashes when I try to sync.
I'm using an iPhone 3G wih 16 GB and 3.1.3 firmware.and version 2.4 of Sync in a Blink with a regular gmail account. I was synching contacts with Outlook 2007 through iTunes but am switching to google contacts and using Syin in a Blink for synching. I don't use MobileMe or Exchange. Doesn't this work on its own or do I have to have something else too?
Right now I don't have any contacts on my iPhone. I'm trying to copy my google contacts onto it.
I did not enable backing up contacts on either location.

It sounds like you are using it correctly. A one way sync like this (from Gmail to iPhone with no contacts on the iPhone) is generally a smooth operation as no contact merging is required. So I'm not sure why you are having the issue. It would be really helpful if you were willing to send me a backup of your Gmail contacts, as I could easily replicate the situation.

Thanks for the offer to help but I've given up again on having groups. Google Sync works well enough as long as I don't use groups. It keeps my Mac, my iPhone and my Google Contacts all in synch without any effort at all. When groups get that easy I'll start using them again.
