Brand new to SIAB. Downloaded my iphone contacts to gmail account, then turned off my Exchange Active synch for contacts. did another synch using SIAB and all the gmail contacts were deleted. Restored my EAS account for contacts and got my iphone contacts back. Downloaded to gmail a second time and again turned off my EAS contacts which has deleted them on the iphone. How do I get the gmail contacts onto my iphone?

After turning off Exchange (which removes the contacts from your iPhone), you need to reset SIAB. It sees all the contacts deleted and thinks it needs to sync that over to Gmail, so then all the contacts get deleted off Gmail as well.
So go into your settings page in SIAB and scroll to the bottom, there is a Reset button. Reset the app, at which point you will need to re-enter your credentials. Then perform a sync again and select the option to merge contacts. That should do the trick.
